KDE 4.2/Linux Mint

I like to use mint as a pretty gateway drug to get newbies interested. It
has a very mem hungry gui by linux standards, but is on par with a fully
patched xp sp3 machine for mem useage and actually looks slicker. In
otherwords,  my mint box used about 300 megs post boot according to htop,
not counting buffers and all that.

However the fact that it is basically polished ubuntu is a draw for me and I
run it on a desktop with a good cpu and 2 gigs of ram.
