It is an organization of students and scholars who are committed to excellence in the study of history. Some of the benefits of membership in Phi Alpha Theta include: an opportunity to meet fellow history students and faculty eligibility to participate in Phi Alpha Theta-sponsored events and to compete for Phi Alpha Theta-sponsored awards a one-year subscription to the quarterly journal The Historian a line on your resume indicating a high degree of academic accomplishment a possible grade-level increase for individuals who secure entry-level professional Federal Civil Service positions after graduation A one-time membership fee of $50 per new inductee is required to cover administrative costs. Financial assistance may be available to qualified applicants, so please do not hesitate to apply for financial reasons. This years induction will take place during the Fourth Annual Student History Conference in the Spring Quarter. Following the brief ceremony, there will be a reception with refreshments. Membership is not restricted to history majors. DePaul undergraduate students are eligible to join Phi Alpha Theta if they meet the following criteria: ( completion of at least four four-credit history classes at DePaul; (Honors 102 and 103 also count as history courses for undergraduate Phi Alpha Theta eligibility) ( a grade point average of at least 3.1 in their history courses; ( a grade point average of at least 3.0 in two-thirds of their non-history courses. Graduate students are also eligible, with slightly different criteria (see below). ( 16 hours of graduate credit in history; ( a 3.5 grade point average in those courses; ( a student may not have failed any courses.
