HST 382: Chicago History Museum Advanced Seminar (fulfills Junior Year Experiential Learning credit)<BR>

Applications for the Fall 2010 Chicago History Museum Advanced Seminar are currently being accepted. A select number of interested DePaul students will be invited to participate in this 4.5 credit advanced seminar--a course that will comprise of students both from Loyola University and from DePaul. The course will meet for fourteen weeks in Fall 2010 with meetings on Thursdays (starting at 3, ending at 5:30) at the Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark Street). The first meeting is scheduled for September 2nd.<BR>

Students interested in the History Major’s new Public History Concentration are especially encouraged to apply. Write Prof. Tyson at prof.tyson@gmail.com for more information about the Concentration.<BR>

Course Description for HST 382 (JYEL approved):<BR>
The Chicago History Museum is one of the premiere public history institutions in the United States and offers an ideal learning environment for future public historians. In this course, students will develop skills and knowledge applicable throughout their public history careers. They will gain a firm conceptual understanding of how the Chicago History Museum does public history, emphasizing its urban context. Students will apply this knowledge to class discussions, assignments, and actual museum projects. Ultimately, students will not only learn what kind of work takes place in a history museum, but also how to work in a history museum. Dr. Peter T. Alter, a museum curator, will be the Instructor. Several Museum staff members and others will also serve as guest presenters.<BR>
