Chicago History Museum Advanced Seminar<BR>

Applications for HST 382: Chicago History Museum, Advanced Seminar are currently being accepted.<BR>
Sixteen DePaul History Majors/Minors will be selected to participate in this 4.5 credit seminar.<BR>
The course will meet for fourteen weeks in Fall 2011 with meetings on Thursdays evenings at the Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark Street).<BR>

Any History Major/Minor who will have completed HST 299 by Fall 2011 may apply, but admission will be competitive. JYEL approved.<BR>
<BR>
Students interested in the History Major's new Public History Concentration are especially encouraged to apply (note: current eligible public history concentrators may be given priority for enrollment). <BR>

Course Description:<BR>
<BR>
The Chicago History Museum is one of the premiere public history<BR>
institutions in the United States and offers an ideal learning<BR>
environment for future public historians. In this course, students<BR>
will develop skills and knowledge applicable throughout their public<BR>
history careers. They will gain a firm conceptual understanding of how<BR>
the Chicago History Museum does public history, emphasizing its urban<BR>
context. Students will apply this knowledge to class discussions,<BR>
assignments, and actual museum projects. Ultimately, students will not<BR>
only learn what kind of work takes place in a history museum, but also<BR>
how to work in a history museum. Dr. Peter T. Alter, a museum curator and archivist,<BR>
will be the Instructor. Several Museum staff members and others will<BR>
also serve as guest presenters.<BR>
