Prof. Amy Tyson

Performing History: Learning History through Museum Theater, Living History, and Historical Performance (U.S. Geographical Focus)

What’s this course about?

We’ll learn about living history, war reenacting (and other types, too), museum theater, museum educational programming, and the art of live historical interpretation. While we’ll read classic and recent scholarly texts on the topics at hand, hands-on learning is at the heart of this class. You’ll engage in a fulfilling, quarter-long research project—which will result in a professional portfolio for use in future job searches. The portfolio will showcase your original historical research, which you’ll have put to use in designing museum educational programming that incorporates living historical interpretation.

We also may take a field trip or two.
