CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER
IRAQ
ACDI/VOCA is seeking an engineering consultant with the Iraq Community
Action
Program (CAP III) engineering team. The consultant will work with ACDI/VOCA
engineers in partnership with the CAP III management team, community
development
staff and local government ministries to review and redesign existing
templates and
models for typical CAP III construction projects, ensuring that designs are
suitable to
the environment, compatible with available materials, and in compliance with
the
guidelines of associated regulators. The consultant will provide materials
and trainings
on design and technical and project management skills for a range of
construction
projects. Responsibilities: Undertake field visits to assess actual project
results,
materials, quality of work, etc. Meet with government officials responsible
for
planning, implementation, supervision and approval of construction projects.
Redesign
existing templates and models for typical CAP III construction projects to
incorporate
greater efficiency, compliance with appropriate regulations, value for money
and safety.
Present new designs via appropriate media (hard copies and in AutoCAD) to
the
engineering department and CAP III management before departure from Iraq.
Prepare
all new proposed designs to meet a minimum criteria. Identify specific
training needs
and the means to acquire this training. Provide online, hard copy, etc.,
resources (in
Arabic language) to the ACDI/VOCA engineering team. Provide soft copy
designs,
strategies and resources for obtaining designs from websites and altering
them.
Qualifications: Civil engineer with a minimum of 15 years of experience in
design and
implementation of small-to-medium construction projects (schools,
agricultural
engineering, irrigation engineering, public space halls and parks,
playgrounds, sports
facilities) in developing countries. Experience in post-conflict countries
and the Middle
East region is preferred. Fluency in English is required. Experience as a
civil engineer
working on USAID-funded projects is required. Arabic language skills
(including
working knowledge of engineering terminology) is highly preferred.
Experience
training other engineers on designs, practical applications, website use of
designs and
new appropriate technologies using interactive, field and formal training
methods as
well as use of AutoCAD. Experience supervising/implementing construction
projects
that the engineer designed. Experience working with host country government
officials
on the design and implementation (as well as facilitation of approval) of
publicly co-
funded construction of small-to-medium-sized projects (see above).
Experience
ensuring projects conform to best practices on efficiency and value for
money

A Transport Safety Specialist (P-4) is sought in Vienna. The Transport
Safety
Specialist reports to the Unit Head and is responsible for implementing

related to the safe transport of radioactive material. REQUIRES: University
degree in
science or engineering with specialization in an appropriate subject such as
radiation
protection, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering or health physics.
At least 7
years experience in the safe transport of radioactive material and radiation
protection.
Demonstrable participation in the development and/or application of the
IAEA's
Transport Regulations and supporting documents essential. Fluency in spoken
and
written English. Knowledge of French, Russian or Spanish would be an asset.
