*SOFTWARE PROGRAMMERS/ ENGINEERS
NEW DELHI, INDIA
A leading healthcare NGO in India, JSS (http://jssbilaspur.org/about/), is building out an
electronic medical record system based upon an open-source platform and is looking
for a few energetic, talented software programmers/ engineers. The aim is to create a
cloud and mobile-based EMR system for JSS, the backbone of which will be the open-
source package OpenMRS. Due to the nature of JSS's work - the fast pace doctors see
patients, the scale of the patient population, the diversity of pathologies - the project is
unprecedented, both in India and abroad. Even in the top-ranked hospital systems in the
United States very few doctors key in their own patient records, instead still relying on
pen and paper. This is because most doctors find the user interface of most EMRs slow,
cumbersome, and distracting from the doctor-patient interaction. Our aim is to design,
build and implement a UI atop OpenMRS that solves this fundamental problem,
incorporating voice recognition, handwriting recognition or some other technology to
quickly and accurately commit the doctor's note to the electronic patient record in
second. This technology exists. Making it part of a lightweight EMR that functions on
an open-source platform, operating on tablet PC or ipads, and incorporating other
departments within the hospital, such as radiology, pathology and the maternity ward is
the challenge. The stakes are huge. Right now there are virtually no patient records kept
from visit to visit at JSS, and the demand placed on these doctors is so enormous that
each patient visit lasts under five minutes. Experience with OpenMRS, along with web
experience with Java EE, database experience with MySQL/PgSQL, UI experience with
Drupal/Android/iOS/HTML5 and coding experience with Drupal/PHP will be real plus
points. Looking for people who can start as soon as possible, though a specific time
commitment is not necessary. Must have strong excellent communication skills. JSS
operates on a low budget in a resource-constrained environment; however, some
compensation is available and will be determined upon skill and experience.
Development will be done in New Delhi, India. TO APPLY: Please send a cover letter
and resume/ CV to daniel.pepper at gmail dot com.
