CICS' "Images of the U.S. Abroad" series explores perceptions of
the
role the United States plays overseas and the implications for our
nation. Reception to precede the talk. Open to the public, no RSVP.

Laith Kubba is the senior program officer for the Middle East and
North
Africa at the National Endowment of Democracy. For the period 1993
until
1998, he was the Director of International Relaat the Al Khoei
Foundation in London. In 1992, he coordinated the INC meeting in
Vienna,
was its spokesman and served at its first executive committee. He also
served on the boards of regional institutions including the Iraq
Foundation and the Arab Organization for Human Rights. Amongst his
published work is Common Ground on Iraq-Kuwait Reconciliation. He
holds
a Bachelors degree from the University of Baghdad 1976 and a Ph.D.
from
the University of Wales in the United Kingdom. He participated in the
"Future of Iraq" working groups led by the State Dept in the build up
to
the war and currently heads the Iraq National Group, an organization
which is focused on transition to democracy in a post-conflict Iraq.
