Memo to current History Graduate Students
>From Prof. Warren Schultz, outgoing Graduate Director

A little bit about a few things...

As is clear from the self-description above, I am stepping down as
Graduate Director. Come this Autumn 2005 Quarter, Dr. Roshanna
Sylvester will be the new Graduate Director for the History Department.
Please join me in welcoming her to the position. I will, of course, aid
Prof. Sylvester in the transition, and will still be available should
anyone be interested in meeting with me.

Registration for Autumn 2005 quarter is continuing. The following
graduate courses are available:

HST 421, The Historical Discipline, Dr. Sylvester
HST 422, Seminar in Primary Source Analysis, Dr. Schultz
HST 431, Colloquium in American History, Dr. Doody
HST 435, Colloquium in European History, Dr. Tikoff

SCHEDULING NOTE 1: If you began our program in Autumn 2004 and plan to
graduate by Spring 2006, you must register for HST 422 this coming
quarter. HST 422 is a required course in the new curriculum, and is
only offered in the Autumn quarter. If you have any questions or
concerns about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

SCHEDULING NOTE 2: Students who matriculated prior to Autumn 2004 are
not required to take HST 422. However, anyone interested in taking the
course may certainly register for it. The course gives participants the
opportunity to analyze in depth primary source(s) in their area of
interest.

While scheduling for the Winter 2006 and Spring 2006 quarters is not
final, we are tentatively planning to offer the following courses.
Please note that this is subject to modification.

Winter 2006
HST 431, Colloquium in American History
HST 434, Colloquium in Asian History

Spring 2006
HST 431, Colloquium in American History
HST 433, Colloquium in African History
HST 489, The Graduate Capstone

As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
WCS
