Re: Departmental Assistantship and Egan-Martinez Scholarship,
Academic Year 2005-2006
In the spring quarter of each year applications are accepted for the
post of Departmental Assistant. This position provides tuition for six
courses plus a stipend to cover 20 hours of work per week during the
academic year (maximum 30 weeks over the academic year). The
Departmental Assistant first and foremost assists the department in
matters of faculty evaluation, promotion, and hiring. As time permits,
the Departmental Assistant may work as a research assistant for faculty
members each quarter. The nature of tasks given the assistant depends
on the needs of the individual professor. These may include library
research, administering/grading of examinations and, perhaps, some
classroom teaching.
Applications are also accepted for the Egan-Martinez Scholarship, which
covers tuition for six courses for one year. Applicants may apply for
either or both of these positions.
Application Instructions:
1. For Current Students: Along with a letter applying for either
or both of these awards, applicants are asked to send us two letters of
recommendation from DePaul professors with whom you have taken a course
and a history of courses taken since your admittance to the MA program
(downloadable from the web).
2. For Incoming Students: All incoming students are considered
for these awards. Their program applications serve as award
applications.
Completed applications are due to the department by June 2, 2005.
Please place your application in an envelope addressed to the History
Department Graduate Committee. Recipients will be notified of their
award prior to the end of the quarter.
