Greetings,

Please see the email from Karen Scott below about how to obtain deeply
discounted tickets for upcoming performances of "The Dialogues of the
Carmelites" at the Lyric Opera. If you want some, ACT FAST!

Here's more info about the opera from the Lyric's website:

ONE OF THE MOST RIVETING MUSICAL AND THEATRICAL FINALES EVER CREATED.

1794. France's Reign of Terror is raging. Desperate to find safety and
peace, Blanche de la Force, a timid young aristocrat, leaves her family
for a convent. But as the Mother Superior warns, she has entered a house
of prayer - not an escape from reality.

Based on a true story, this devastating emotional drama takes place in
the hearts and minds of Carmelite nuns who died in martyrdom.

Dialogues grabs you by the throat and tears at your heart. Its
spellbinding narrative is made more intense by the music of Francis
Poulenc-one of the greatest composers of the last century

Subject: [Tt_history] Urgent: news about student tickets to see
"Dialogues of the Carmelites" opera
Importance: High

Dear everyone,
You may have heard that the Chicago opera is performing Francis
Poulenc's wonderfully moving opera "The Dialogues of the Carmelites"
this season. The libretto was adapted from a play by Georges Bernanos
about a community of Carmelite nuns who were arrested and then executed
during the French revolution.

We now have received word about.... GETTING TICKETS for our students!!!

Jim Halstead is holding subsidized tickets for these two performances of
the opera:

1) Friday, Feb. 23, 7:30pm: students get to go for $25.

2) Monday, Feb. 26, 7:30pm: students get to go for $20.

These prices are relatively cheap because they are group tickets, and a
variety of departments (including Catholic studies and History) are
subsidizing the cost to make the tickets even more affordable.

I would appreciate it if you could tell interested students about this
opportunity, and advise them on the following method of reserving a
ticket:

What they need to do is 1) decide whether they would like to attend or
not; 2) if yes, decide which of the two performances they would like to
attend; 3) let me know via email by THIS THURSDAY, 3pm. That is THE DAY
AFTER TOMORROW!! The student email constitutes a commitment to buy the
ticket.

Thank you.

Karen
