Dear Intrepid Historians,

Take out your calendars (desk, wall, or electronic), a pen (or your
texting fingers), and mark down the following important dates!

On Thursday, April 29 (two weeks from today), the History Department is
co-hosting an event with the DePaul alumni office. You are invited!!!!
This is the third of our series of programs helping our students begin
connecting to life and the world beyond DePaul. I will provide more
detail later, but for now, it's from 5:00 (p.m.) to 7:00 (p.m.) in the
Lincoln Park Welcome Center. DePaul history alums (you soon!) will be
talking about how their degree has helped them in the work world. It
will give you an opportunity to hear how their degree helped them get
employed, or helped them stay employed, or helped them win all the
trivia games at the office. And, it will give you an opportunity to
begin networking! Oh, wait...! Did I mention FOOD? Yes, there will be
food, too, so please let me know ASAP if you are interested in coming
(and, of course, can come).

On Friday, April 30 (er, two weeks and a day from today), we are hosting
our sixth annual Student History Conference. If you will be presenting
a paper, please come! If not, please come and support your friends and
colleagues! It's a wonderful celebration of all things history and our
wonderful students! It runs throughout the day, from 9:00 (a.m.)
through 6:30 (p.m.) in the Student Center, so you can pop in and out of
the conference all day. Our keynote speaker (a surprise from the
University of Chicago) will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of
the Mexican Revolution. And, we will have our fourth and fifth life
planning sessions! One of our panels will be a presentation by the
Career Center. And...we will have an all-day Career Center "resume
drive through and tune up" for those of you who need some ideas to get
started or need some fine tuning on a resume. Oh, and here's some more
info....

If you are presenting a paper, I and Dr. Otunnu will be chairing a brief
session of "what to expect" on Thursday, April 22 (next Thursday), from
3:00-4:00 (room TBD). If you can come to this session, please let me
know.

The award ceremony is from 5:30-6:30 on the day of the conference. Who
should go? Everyone! If you are graduating, we have a brief
recognition of the department's top graduating seniors. If you are
presenting a paper, we will recognize you and the top three papers. If
you applied to Phi Alpha Theta, I will be sending letters out soon, and
we will recognize you. Please attend and invite your fans, too!

Okay, that's all for now! See you soon!

Remember, think historically!

Best, Dr. B
