Position Available: Exhibit Research Intern at Friends of the Chicago River
Position length: August - November, approximately 160 hours
Salary: $10/hour
Internship Description:
Friends of the Chicago River is opening the Chicago River Museum in Spring 2004 and needs an exhibit research intern to compile information as well as photos, maps and artifacts on the Chicago River. The exhibit research intern will become part of the team developing the exhibits for the museum. The intern will be responsible for conducting all research necessary for the exhibits. Research will include finding background information on a wide variety of topics related to the history of the Chicago River, the importance and variety of bridges in Chicago and the current challenges facing the river. In addition, the intern will be responsible for all archival research to unearth photos and 3-D objects to support and tell the story of the exhibit.
Responsibilities:
? Research background information for exhibit
? Archival research for the exhibit
? Documenting and summarizing of research findings
Qualifications:
? Pursuing or completed undergraduate degree
? Excellent research skills as evidenced by experience and familiarity with research skills and sources
? Strong internet skills
? Good communication, writing and organization skills
? Comfortable calling people and organizations in search of information
? Ability to work within a deadline
? Team player
? Ability to travel to libraries, historic societies and government agencies in the Chicago area
