ANNOUNCING: INTERNSHIP OPPORUTNITY IN HISTORY DEPARTMENT

The History Department seeks a responsible DePaul undergraduate to assist departmental faculty and staff in the administration of the department as a Project Connect Intern. This detail-oriented student must be capable of prioritizing multiple tasks with varying deadlines. The student intern will have an opportunity to work independently on projects for the History Department and individual professors as assigned, and perform other duties as follows:
*Assist the department Administrative Assistant in performing tasks needed to maintain departmental operations
*Edit the History Department Newsletter each quarter
*Generate lists with departmental information such as faculty office hours and class schedules
*Order desk copies of course materials for faculty members
*Act as liaison between faculty and the bookstore
*Assist students in contacting professors and all other needs
*Generate and maintain files for undergraduate and graduate majors
*Order office supplies
*Assist in department hiring searches by generating and maintaining files, and keeping candidates apprised of their status
*The student intern is also responsible for assisting with course evaluations, photocopying, filing, answering phones, and performing duties for faculty as assigned.
The student intern position is a part of DePaul University's Project Connect Program. The student intern must fulfill all Project Connect requirements in order to continue in the program. All students participating in the program will be required to participate in a series of seminars developed by the Career Center which include meeting with a peer career advisor, creating and following a learning agreement, attending Career Center events, and evaluating personal performance. The student in turn may also have the option of using this position to satisfy DePaul, "Experiential Learning" requirement.
The student intern must be an enrolled DePaul undergraduate student available to work 15-25 hours per week during the school year with increased hours during summer and breaks. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and has excellent communication skills. The intern will be working closely with the department assistant and must be able to keep the department assistant and appropriate faculty members informed of the status of projects at all times. The position requires a professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality as needed. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel should be excellent. Start date is flexible but no later than September 2. (Ability to begin in summer 2003 a plus.)
Pay rate: $8-$12/hour
Interested applicants should submit a resume to Ms. Onie Green-Givens at History Department (SAC 420) by May 30, 2003, indicating educational background, work experience, computer skills, and at least three references, preferably at least one from a former supervisor and one from a DePaul faculty member. Applicants should also indicate when they could begin this position, if selected. Review of resumes will begin Monday, June 2.
