Dear History Student,
The Department of History is sponsoring two presentations next week
"On
the Complexity of Historical Interpretation: The Case of Palestine and
the Creation of Israel." On Monday, May 16 at 3:00 in SAC 154, Dr.
Salim
Yaqub of the University of Chicago will be speaking on "The United
States and the Creation of Israel, 1947-1949." On Tuesday, May 17 at
3:00 in SAC 154, Dr. Kenneth W. Stein of Emory University will be
speaking on "Palestinian-Israeli Relations until 1949."
My hope is that as many DePaul University history students as possible
will attend both of these presentations. Taken together, they should
be
an educational moment that not only will highlight the details of a
significant event in twentieth-century history, but also will expose
some problems of historical interpretation, historiography, and the
construction of the past. Please do write these events into your
calendar and attend.
A flyer is attached.
Thank you.
