and Audiences

Applications for the Fall 2008 Chicago History Museum Practicum are
currently being accepted. Eight DePaul History Majors/Minors will be
selected to participate in this 4.5 credit seminar, which will also
include students from Loyola University. The course will meet for
fourteen weeks in Fall 2008 with meetings on Thursdays from 3:30-6, at
the Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark Street). Course begins on
August 28 and ends December 5. Any History Major/Minor who will have
junior standing by Fall 2008 may apply, but admission will be
competitive. Enrollees may take the course for History credit OR for
JYEL credit (but not both). Upon your acceptance into the course, you
will meet with Professor Tyson to discuss enrollment options.

Students interested in the History Major's new Public History
Concentration are especially encouraged to apply. Write Prof. Tyson
at prof.tyson at gmail.com for more information about the Concentration.

Course Description:

The Chicago History Museum is one of the premiere public history
institutions in the United States and offers an ideal learning
environment for future public historians. In this course, students
will develop skills and knowledge applicable throughout their public
history careers. They will gain a firm conceptual understanding of how
the Chicago History Museum does public history, emphasizing its urban
context. Students will apply this knowledge to class discussions,
assignments, and actual museum projects. Ultimately, students will not
only learn what kind of work takes place in a history museum, but also
how to work in a history museum. Dr. Peter T. Alter, a museum curator,
will be the Instructor. Several Museum staff members and others will
also serve as guest presenters.

How to Apply:

Interested students should submit apply online through the following
link: http://www.itd.depaul.edu/quickdata2/viewwebform.asp?id=3915,
and should also submit one copy of their unofficial transcripts
(available at Campus Connect) to Prof. Amy Tyson in the History
Department, SAC 434. Deadline closes May 28th.
