Chicago Area Womens History Council
Internship Project Description
Description: Assist the Chicago Area Womens History Council with implementation of its new project Documenting the Womens Movement in Chicago, 1960s 1980s. Help survey established archives for relevant collections, assist in preparing resource material for the projects on-line database, conduct research for contextual information for the project, aid in community outreach efforts.
Requirements of Student: A commitment of 100 hours over the course of Fall Quarter 2009. Student may also apply for academic credit for completing this internship (can count towards a JYEL credit, as well as a 300-level history requirement).
Benefits for the Student: Opportunity to work for an established non-profit historical organization; opportunity to develop experience and skills in public history research; opportunity to participate in the conceptualization and implementation of a unique and significant public history project; opportunity to interact with the board and members of CAWHC, a network of scholars, archivists, activists, media professionals, teachers and others.
Qualifications: An interest in American womens history; familiarity with basic computer word processing, database, and search engine programs; knowledge of Chicago history is useful.
