History Majors, History Minors, and American Studies Majors with advanced standing (Junior/Senior) as of Fall 2009 are encouraged to apply.
Students interested in the History Majors new Public History Concentration are especially encouraged to apply. Write Amy Tyson at prof.tyson at gmail.com for more information about the Concentration.
Course Description:
The Chicago History Museum is one of the premiere public history institutions in the United States and offers an ideal learning environment for future public historians. In this course, students will develop skills and knowledge applicable throughout their public history careers. They will gain a firm conceptual understanding of how the Chicago History Museum does public history, emphasizing its urban context. Students will apply this knowledge to class discussions, assignments, and actual museum projects. Ultimately, students will not only learn what kind of work takes place in a history museum, but also how to work in a history museum. Dr. Peter T. Alter, a museum curator, will be the Instructor. Several Museum staff members and others will also serve as guest presenters. http://chicagohistory.org/
How to Apply:
Interested students should submit apply online through the following link: http://www.itd.depaul.edu/quickdata2/viewwebform.asp?id=3915, and should also submit one copy of their unofficial transcripts (available at Campus Connect) to Prof. Amy Tyson in the History Department (mailbox in SAC 420). Deadline closes Monday, June 1. Should you be one of the successful applicants, you will meet with Professor Tyson to discuss enrollment.
