There are a few open slots for students interested in enrolling in the Chicago History Museum Advanced Seminar, taught by archivist Dr. Peter Alter. Description of the seminar is pasted below.
This 4.5 credit course will meet for fourteen weeks in Fall 2011 with meetings on Thursdays evenings at the Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark Street); first class begins September 1.
Any History Major/Minor who will have completed HST 299 by Fall 2011 may apply. Admission is competitive, but there are still open slots for qualified students. JYEL approved.

Course Description:
The Chicago History Museum is one of the premiere public history
institutions in the United States and offers an ideal learning
environment for future public historians. In this course, students
will develop skills and knowledge applicable throughout their public
history careers. They will gain a firm conceptual understanding of how
the Chicago History Museum does public history, emphasizing its urban
context. Students will apply this knowledge to class discussions,
assignments, and actual museum projects. Ultimately, students will not
only learn what kind of work takes place in a history museum, but also
how to work in a history museum. Dr. Peter T. Alter, a museum curator and archivist,
will be the Instructor. Several Museum staff members and others will
also serve as guest presenters.
