Hey History Majors,
Do you need Learning Domain Credit for Self, Society and the Modern World? Do you wish such a class was taught by a historian? Look no further than AMS 150: 301 Perspectives on America, taught by our own Prof. Chris Stacey. This class will focus on War, Community, and Identity in the U.S.

AMS150:301 PERSPECTIVES ON AMERICA
Learning Domain Credit: Self, Society and the Modern World
TU/TH: 9:40-11:10 a.m
Professor Chris Stacey
This class has three sections:
War: Explore how Americans have created ways of understanding what wars mean to our society. We will examine WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Propaganda, the reasons we fight, and the experience of soldiers at war and their return home are all discussed.
Community: The American Dream is anchored to the concept of community. What has happened to the cherished belief of belonging to a closely knit group of family, friends and neighbors since the end of WWII? We will interrogate how the suburban ideal of the 1950s disintegrated into the rural meth crisis of the 1990s. We'll also ask what the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina reveals about community and contemporary American society.
Identity: How are American identities connected to the pursuit of happiness? We'll look at the rise of Black Power, what happened when 8-track stereos and dope became marketed as part of the American Dream, why the visions of a pseudo-Victorian world made Steampunk popular in the 1990s, and the current debates around gay marriage.
