Internship Description

Research Intern

The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum is seeking an intern to assist with
historical research for an exhibition about the Conservative Vice Lords.

An intergenerational group from the Vice Lords has recently formed to create
an exhibit about the history of one of the gang¹s factions. In the late
1960s, a faction of the gang called the Conservative Vice Lords (CVL) worked
to redefine the meaning of a street gang. The CVL became a legitimate
not-for-profit entity that fought the effects of drugs, violence, and
oppression in their community. The exhibit is community curated and will
open in Lawndale in the summer of 2012.

Intern will assist with primary and secondary source research and additional
tasks as needed. Previous experience doing research in the social sciences
or humanities required. Interest in gang history or the Black Freedom
Movement desired. Internship schedule is flexible, 8 hours per week would be
ideal. This is an unpaid internship. To apply, please email a resume and
letter of interest to ljunkin at uic.edu by February 24, 2012.
