Hi there, everyone.

Yes, I would be very interested in some conversation about this contract, and I would be grateful for your intervention, Maureen.

DEAR CCADERs,

I am writing about an urgent, time-sensitive matter - the CPS Student Teaching Contract that you all should have received a little over a week ago.

I am sure that some of you will get this e-mail when you have asked to be removed from the list. I am sorry that Pam and I have not cleaned up the list but feel free to weigh in.

There are several issues that could be raised about the additions to the contract but the ones below are a start. CPS is asking for the signed contract back by 8/25 (Monday!) or they say that our candidates will not be allowed to begin student teaching.

Since we are not meeting until 9/2, I am writing to ask how you would like to handle this. I am certainly willing to have the NEIU attorney give CPS a call and see if we can buy some time. We could ask for a meeting with Barbara Byrd-Bennett.

The last time the contract has so many issues in it, many of you will recall that this galvanized us and we met with Arne Duncan. Let me know what you think as time is very short. I have been negligent in reading it carefully but plan to do so this afternoon. This deadline snuck up on me so it may have happened to you.

Maureen

Hello, Melissa and Maureen,

I am not certain if this is helpful, but I wanted to share with you other universities' concerns regarding the new CPS agreement as well as Leslie Ackerman's comment.

Thank you,

Cate

I have expected someone from this group to raise the alarm about the contents of the new CPS agreement we are supposed to have signed and returned to CPS by Monday, August 25. I am attaching our agreement in case you have not seen yours yet. I received it last Wednesday, August 13.

I sent a message to Leslie Ackerman and just spoke with her on the phone about these issues:

  * p. 4 THE PROGRAM (1st paragraph): "Placements will be coordinated by the CPS Student Teaching Program.....Each student placed in CPS....will be evaluated utilizing the Board's REACH evaluation system."

     * How will CPS "coordinate" placements? When will this begin?
     * The REACH evaluation system is much too in-depth to be used in a 14-week program with student teachers who have limited freedom. How will this work?

  * p. 5 SCHOOL PLACEMENT (1st paragraph): "CPS will determine eligible schools and eligible cooperating teachers for student teacher placements."

     *   How?
     * What about the relationships we have worked hard to establish with schools, principals, and teachers?
     * Will travel distance and access to public transportation be considered?
     *

  * p. 7 G. UNIVERSITY EVALUATIONS: "University shall provide a copy of the Academic Progress Assessment template to CPS for review prior to disseminating to CPS Cooperating Teachers. Academic Progress Assessments should align with the CPS Framework for Teaching and the REACH evaluation system."

     * When and how will we send all of the evaluation forms to CPS? How quickly will be get the "OK" from CPS to use them?
     * Our student teachers come from five different states and each has their own evaluation criteria based on their state requirements. What if the state does not align with the CPS Framework for teaching and REACH?

Leslie told me that CPS wants to move quickly on all of this, but a real plan is not in place.

Have your institutions signed this? Do we have other option?

Please "reply to all" your responses.

Thanks!
